What Manner of Change
By Toyin | July 26, 2008
The Nigerian Football Association just changed its name to Nigerian Football Federation and the implication is that the post of the Chairman seize to exist while we now have a President. All other positions will also reflect this change.
Right from Biblical times, names have been changed and such changes normally bring along positive impact and reflection on the people, situation and circumstances concerned. When God changed the name of the Patriach Abram to Abraham, it was to accommodate the new reality of fatherhood, and infact, the generational shift to abundance of children all over the world so that the numberof his descendants would be as much as the sand of the sea.
As soon as the change came, father Abraham began to walk in that new frame of mind. It was recorded that his walk and ways before God almighty became even more impeccable and as such warranted immessurable blessings to his household. He became a nation.
When Apostle Paul had change of name, his life reflected a paradigm shift in every facet of his being. The persecutor became the messenger. He was bent on making the change that his new name demanded. He forsook his old ways and made a bold step to the future that he envisaged carried the promises of spiritual rebirth and reconciliation to God.
Many examples abound even in the corporate world where companies change names and identity (rebranding) and thereafter embark on purposeful and concerted efforts to make the new changes that the exercise defines to be the objective. Even the cultural disposition of staff is reprogrammed to reflect the change.
So must Nigerian Football Association, hah, ‘am sorry-Nigerian Football Federation reflect absolute change from all that has been recognised as the bane of football development in this nation.
Such unfortunate realities as corruption, tribalism, incompetency, match fixing, planlessness et al must be done away with. The new change must bring about attitudinal turn-around and a burning desire to take the game to the required level.
I have no doubt in my mind that we can do it. Do we have the require materials? Absolutely. What is needed is dedication and the reality that what we do today echoes in eternity.
Our football cannot remain at the current level and we expect to be at the top internationally. The way forward is to look and see the bigger picture rather than be fixated on narrow and parochial interest that has brought us to this present level.
Shalom!
