Do You Want to Quit?

By Toyin | October 6, 2008

That frustration and disappointments abound in our world is a fact. More so, failure may stare you in the face daily. When all you do seems to lead nowhere, it is far easier to call it a day and pack it up than trying for a moment longer.

Friends, I have good news for you- This is not the time to give up. It is a new dawn and the mistakes, disappointments and failures of the past have all been washed away. It is a time to begin all over again. Yes, all over again.

At the end of the tunnel, always await a light. You can only see it if you are determined to walk through the tunnel and not to run back midway. While it is true that that the tunnel is a dark and sometimes lonely place, the light at the end should hold a far greater promise to see you through.

Remember, it is not how far, but how well. When you see others around you making headways with their lives, do not be jealous. Rejoice with them and thank God on their behalves. True victory comes only from God and those that desire it must follow a process. A process so defined that only the obedient goes through.

What seems difficult today is a potential testimony tomorrow. Please don’t give up. The clouds are heavy, it is about to rain; bring out your containers for an out pouring of His blessings. Indeed, it is a new day!

Let me share a little story with you. It is the second day of the UEFA champions’ league. Shaktar Donesk of Ukraine hosts FC Barcelona of Spain in a potential decider on who heads this group.

While you and I may not be too familiar with the names of the players of the home team, I am very certain that most guys out there can name the first eleven of Barcelona. Big names that strike fear into the heart of any opponent across Europe.

They however went behind just before the first half ended! Their captain, Carlos Puyol failed to clear a dangerous ball and Sinlho took the opportunity to score his first champions league goal. The Catalans could not believe that they are trailing having played so well for the first forty minutes of the match. This is the beautiful thing about football and no one can predict 100% the outcome of any engagement.

When the second half commenced, Barcelona became more business like trying to get a goal. They did everything possible but there was no head way.

The above may typify your current situation. You put in a lot but the results are not commensurate. Even those around you declare that ‘old boy, you don try’! Yet I say to you, ‘old boy, try harder and never give up’.

Let me go back to my story. While they tried very hard to get a goal and nothing was coming forth, their attitude remained positive. Their believe system does not permit negativity! Their eyes were focused on the goal of the day-getting the three points at stake.

When the need arose, they made changes: Bojan came in for Henry and eventually, Messi for Eto o (after he missed a golden opportunity to equalize for his team). By this time, the time read eighty two minutes.

Is there something you are not doing right? There is always room for improvement. You can modify your strategies to meet up with current challenges. Only fools continue to do the same thing over and over when it is obvious that it is a wrong strategy.

Surely Barcelona is set for a shock loss in Ukraine! Wrong! A silly mistake from the goalkeeper gave Messi the opportunity to score the equalizer.

Time and circumstances favours the persistent at the end of the day. If you don’t give up, you would definitely partake of the reality of success at the end of it all.

When he came in, Messi was totally messed up by the hard tackling Chryginsky. A guy with a funny name, he went about harking down the poor boy at every opportunity trying to intimidate and discourage him from show casing his God given talent.

Perhaps, this strikes a chord with you. While you may be bruised and battered with realities of your disappointments and failures, always keep in focus the big picture. Like Messi, keep in mind that getting the three points is still very possible despite the fact that the time is almost gone.

Just when everyone thought that the point would be shared by the two teams, Messi (you guessed right!) popped up with the winning goal. He hauled his team from the brink of defeat to the heights of success all within nine minutes.

Have they been playing for over eighty minutes? Yes! Yet, they were unable to get a goal (no success despite serious effort)? Yes! Did they play very well? Yes! What eventually happened? I thought I already told you; they won the game.

Friend, it is not over until God says it is! Shalom.

    Well said!

Everything points to the fact that winners don’t quit. Continue to do whatever you believed in, not minding the shortcomings and with your closeness to God, you will be embarrassed with His blessings.

Messi is a true professional, despite all the tackles he remained focussed; making sure he contributes his own quota to see that Barca are not disgraced. At the end of the day he was rewarded with two goals; the second being the winner (I am sure he did not expect this). This is one of the reasons why I personally regard him as the best player on planet earth at the moment.

When you are “persistently consistent” or “consistently persistent”, you get a positive result.
